The challenge

Investors and asset owners need to understand both the current condition and the future potential of operating battery energy storage systems. The challenge is to identify technical risks, assess remaining useful life, and evaluate how different operating strategies affect degradation and commercial potential.

FEV e+r: Our involvement and solution

FEV combines a structured BESS Redflag Report with advanced asset simulation. The assessment considers battery and power conversion system health, fault logs, maintenance records, usage profiles, documentation, and optional on-site inspections. Battery and power-electronics models are then used to simulate degradation under different load profiles and operating scenarios.

Key Insights:
  • Structured identification of technical findings requiring monitoring or further action.
  • Simulation of degradation and remaining useful life for different operating strategies.
  • Technical basis for comparing asset utilization scenarios and supporting investment decisions.

The combined approach connects historical asset performance with forward-looking analysis, providing a transparent foundation for technical due diligence and BESS asset optimization.
