Major player in the field of fluoropolymers: The challenge

  • Gore developed a novel membrane technology for PEM Electrolysis
  • FEV was asked to assess the market potential of their technology

FEV e+r: Our involvement and solution

FEV chose a techno-economic simulation approach :

  • Identification and characterization of most relevant use-cases for large-scale electrolysis in the near future
  • System design and 1D simulation of PEM as well as alkaline electrolyzer for the defined use-cases with customer-specific membrane performance characteristics
  • Analysis of the system and membrane performance and calculation of the resulting levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH)
  • Sensitivity study on membrane performance characteristics and surrounding assumptions
  • Strategic recommendations of future development targets and next steps
