Internal project: The challenge

As electric vehicle adoption accelerates, grid stability and renewable integration become critical challenges. Traditional charging approaches lack flexibility, making it difficult to balance energy demand, dynamic tariffs, and renewable generation. The need: on-demand, multi-directional EV charging that supports Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), and smart energy strategies.

FEV e+r: Our involvement and solution

The XL-Connect project, funded under EU Horizon Europe, addresses these challenges by developing an advanced ecosystem for smart bidirectional charging and energy management.

FEV’s Role:

  • Smart/Bidirectional Charging: ISO 15118-20 compliant, integrated with dynamic tariffs and intelligent V2G strategies.
  • Digital Twin Development: Real-time simulation for predictive modeling of charging parks and EV fleets.
  • Cloud Integration: Incorporating real-time weather and price data with standardized interfaces for physical and virtual assets.
  • Demonstrator Site in Aachen: Hosted by Regionetz/Stawag, showcasing V2G-capable charging points and vehicles for real-world validation.

This initiative enables cost optimization, grid stability, and renewable energy integration, paving the way for a sustainable, intelligent charging infrastructure.
