FEV and Regout Group Collaborate on Smart Energy Management through PV–BESS Integration
Regout group: The challenge
The Regout Group, a leading industrial manufacturer in Maastricht, aims to enhance sustainability and reduce energy costs. With rising electricity prices and the need for greener operations, the challenge was to identify an optimal mix of renewable energy generation and battery storage that balances cost-efficiency and energy autonomy.
FEV e+r: Our involvement and solution
FEV conducted a comprehensive simulation-based feasibility study using its proprietary Energy Systems Simulation Environment. The study evaluated various PV–BESS configurations under fixed and dynamic tariff conditions, analyzing payback time, grid energy costs, and operational strategies.
Key Insights:
- Peak shaving, improved PV utilization, and energy arbitrage through BESS integration.
- Optimal PV–BESS combination achieved 43% PV contribution to load, enabling significant annual savings with a 7-year payback period.
- Significant energy cost reduction under dynamic tariffs compared to fixed tariffs.
These results lay the foundation for implementing a Smart Energy Management System (EMS) to optimize energy flows in real time—turning simulation insights into sustainable action.
